Swim Lesson Classes:

Swim lessons are offered Mon-Thurs 8:30A-8:00P, Fri 8:30A-7:00P, & Sat 8:30A-1:00P
A variety of class levels are offered at designated times throughout the day. Each lesson is 30
minutes in length. Some competitive class lengths may vary.
If only one student is present for a scheduled group or semi-private class, that class will turn into
a 20 minute lesson.
Students will not be permitted into class after 10 minutes into the lesson.
Instructors and class times may vary from session to session.

Make-up Policy/Missed Lessons:

If you are unable to make your scheduled lesson due to illness or a scheduling conflict, please notify our office by 10AM the day of the lesson.
If the office is notified by 10AM for a missed lesson due to illness, vacation, or a personal scheduling conflict, each student will be issued a "FINS Buck" redeemable for one make-up lesson.
During the Spring Session, students will only be allowed 3 make-up lessons using issued FINS Bucks
During the summer and fall sessions, students will only be allowed 2 make-up lessons using issued FINS Bucks
In order to schedule a make-up class, parents must call the day they wish to schedule the make-up class. FINS front office staff will let each parent know if there is availability in a class that day for a make-up. If there is no room for a make-up that day, parents must call to reschedule their make-up lesson at a later date.
FINS does not guarantee same class sizes for make-ups (example: semi-private might have to make up a class in a small group).
Cancellation of individual private/special group classes with less than 24 hr notice will result in no make-ups or refunds.
Make-ups are non-transferable, not redeemable for cash value, and hold only a one lesson value.
If you miss the last class of the session, no make-up credit will be given.
Parents must present their FINS Buck to the front office to receive the make-up lesson. If you do not have your FINS Buck, you will not be allowed to enter for the make-up lesson and an additional make-up will not be permitted.
No make-ups will be scheduled the first 2 weeks of a session.
If a student begins classes after the session has already begun, the class cost will be prorated to the appropriate start date.
In the event of a class cancellation by FINS, our Customer Service staff will contact you with the make-up date or class credit as determined by management

Health Concerns:

FINS pool water is kept on a MIOXX chlorination system with regular monitoring and is serviced by a professional pool maintenance company for the best possible water condition.
OK to swim: If your child has a clear runny nose, but no fever
NOT OK to swim: If your child has a fever or any type of contagious condition (respiratory, eye, or skin rash), or diarrhea. Please do not bring them to class until your doctor has cleared them to continue with physical activity.
Students with sensitive eyes are encouraged to wear goggles.
PERMANENT SWIM DIAPERS & DISPOSABLE SWIM DIAPERS ARE REQUIRED for any student not potty trained or prone to accidents.
If a child has a fecal accident and was not wearing both swim diapers, you will be permanently excused from the program and no refund or credit will be given for remaining lessons.

Interaction During Lessons:

For the safety of all involved, we limit our deck area to swimmers and FINS personnel only. Occasionally, we may request parental assistance with a child.
A Deck Monitor will be on duty during heavier lesson hours to assist students to and from classes. If you notice your child needing assistance (to find their way to the restroom during a lesson) and a deck monitor is not available, please help the swimmer leave and re-enter the class safely.
If you need to talk to a teacher about your child's lessons, please wait until the last few minutes of class (playtime) to avoid distracting other children during your child's instructional time. At times, conversation with the teacher may not be possible and you are welcome to speak with the deck monitor or front desk. We will leave a message for the instructor to call you at their earliest convenience.

Instructor Requests:

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are unable to honor requests for specific instructors. FINS reserves the right to change instructors and/or reassign an instructor to a different class at anytime.
We fully understand the importance of consistency when teaching children this important life saving skill. However, there are times when our instructors will be out due to illness, unforeseen emergencies, and scheduled vacation. During that time, a substitute instructor will teach the lessons.
The substitute instructor is provided notes on your child's particular class and should be able to conduct the lesson in the same manner as the regular instructor. Please be assured that all of our instructors receive the same rigorous training and monthly in-service to provide your student with the best lessons possible.

Questions or Concerns About Swim Lessons?

We highly encourage any communication that might assist us with your student in achieving the best possible lesson experience. Often this will need to be directed to either the Deck Monitor or Customer Service Staff at the front desk to effectively answer your question or accomplish your request.
If you have any concerns about your child's class or instruction being received during that class, please see the front desk immediately.
If you would like to speak with the instructor directly, please wait until the last few minutes of class.

What Can I Expect From Swim Lessons?

Knowledge of water safety is our # 1 priority in swim lessons. In addition, we will do our best to teach each child basic swim strokes, good breathing techniques, and necessary endurance to promote safe water activities.
Just like many other skills young people learn, the best results will come with a consistent program over a few years period. A weekly lesson throughout the year with interval breaks will yield better results than pushing to learn everything during the summer months, with no continued exposure to swimming for the next 8-10 months.
There are many motor skills to be mastered and used simultaneously in swimming and each child will learn at their own pace...and will do best when they are having fun.
The investment of lessons over a few years is best for solid mastery and the basis to making swimming an enjoyable and safe activity that will last a lifetime.

Lesson Observation/Restrictions:

View rooms are available for easy and comfortable observation of your child's swim lessons.
If your child experiences separation anxiety, the instructor may ask you to remain out of sight for the duration of the first few classes. Please do not take offense to this request. Your cooperation will help your child focus on the new environment and adjust to their new teacher. Know that within a few lessons, you will be able to observe your child during their swim lesson.

Parental Responsibility:

A designated responsible adult must be on the premises throughout the entire lesson.
All Band-Aids Must Be Removed Before Swim Lessons
All Long Hair Must Be Tied Back
Both Disposable & Permanent Swim Diapers Are Required For All Children Who Are Not Potty Trained or Prone To Accidents

Please keep a watchful eye on the children with you who are not in swim lessons. This means:

No Coloring On Walls, Floors, or Furniture
No Running Around the Facility
No Horseplay
