Bill Goudeket began swimming
competitively at the age of 12 for the YMCA
swim team in Ardmore, Oklahoma. While swimming
throughout his high school years, he also found
time to teach swim lessons and lifeguard.
At the age of 17, Bill qualified for the Olympic
Trials in the specialty of Breaststroke. After
receiving a full swimming scholarship, Bill's
college years at the University of Texas at
Arlington were highlighted with four varsity
letters, the election as Team Captain his senior
year, a trip to the Olympic Trials, and a Top
25 World Ranking.
Mixed in with a business career and a young
family, Bill found time to coach competitive
swimming for summer league teams and founded
three teams in the Houston Northwest Aquatic
League. For the past ten years Bill has coached
for area USA Swim Teams, and in 1996, started
and became Head Coach of the Houston Elite Aquatic
Team (HEAT). During his leadership, the HEAT
had great success, finishing as high as 2nd
in the state including Top Ten finishes in Texas
Age Group Swimming for ten consecutive seasons.
In
1999, Bill and his wife Kathy purchased the
George Campbell Olympic Swimming Academy. The
business was renamed Fun IN Swimming, FINS,
and currently operates year-round swim lessons,
competitive training, birthday swim parties,
aquatic fitness, and aquatic therapy in a newly
constructed 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art,
indoor, heated aquatic facility.
In the fall of 2001, Bill announced his retirement
as Head Coach of the HEAT to spend more time
training staff and, of course, teaching classes
at the swim school. "I wasn't sure how
retirement from coaching a team for all these
years would feel
but taking new swimmers
and seeing how much their confidence grows,
and their enjoyment increases, has been very
fulfilling. Competitive swimming is the most
efficient method of swimming and if taught correctly
even the very young swimmer can show terrific
results. My competitive background dictates
that I teach swimming with a competitive style
and we have trained our staff to do the same.
The results have been phenomenal."
Bill currently teaches various level classes,
including the competitive classes and private
lessons for advanced USA swimmers.
